Today, the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is pleased to announce a new Partnership with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). Led by UN Environment, the CCAC is a global programme dedicated to reducing the impact of short-lived climate pollutants on both human health and climate change. The Coalition unites governments, NGOs, citizens and the private sector around their series of initiatives, each of which pursues ambitious global targets around clean energy, agriculture, transport and the built environment.

Through this partnership, WorldGBC and its network of national Green Building Councilswill offer a focus and expertise around the building and construction industry to this coalition of global leaders. To further the CCAC’s aims and projects, WorldGBC will actively contribute project resource and collateral through Better Places for People, a WorldGBC programme dedicated to promoting a healthier and more sustainable built environment.

The CCAC leads a global initiative around health, part of which is the internationally-recognised ‘BreatheLife2030’ campaign alongside the World Health Organisation. WorldGBC intends to actively contribute to this campaign through the work of its Better Places for People programme, which has committed to a campaign around ‘Air Quality in the Built Environment’ to begin in 2019. In developed societies where people spend 90% of their time indoors, it’s vital to recognise the impact of the built environment on human health – both in and outside of buildings – as well as the impact that infrastructure has upon the planet and its changing climate.
