The Ministry of Construction has issued Circular 13/2017/TT-BXD – Stipulating on Use of Non-Baked Building Materials in Construction Works, which came into effect on 01 February 2018. Under the Circular, all state-funded buildings and construction works invested by loans of state-owned enterprises (state funding is higher than 30% of total capital) in Hanoi and HCMC must be built with 100% of non-baked materials. In addition, state-funded buildings with 9 storeys or higher must use 80% of non-baked materials.
Materials are of vital importance to buildings, and the selection of materials has long-term effects on human health and the ecosystem. As a result, green building rating systems like LEED, LOTUS or Green Mark all have significant portion of requirements and points related to the selection of building materials. It has become an important question for architects, engineers or interior designers working on a green project, as well as those material manufacturers and suppliers who would like to participate in the growing green building market.
To facilitate discussions on sustainable building materials, the VGBC has developed a new training course entitled “Contribution of Materials to Green Building”. The course will provide a broad coverage of commonly used rating systems in Vietnam, such as LEED, LOTUS and Green Mark, before discussing in depth the major groups of building materials, their main sustainability aspects and how a material product can contribute to green building certification.
