What is green building?
According to DECREE 15/2021/ND-CP on DETAILED REGULATIONS ON A NUMBER OF CONTENTS REGARDING MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION INVESTMENT PROJECTS, issued on March 3, 2021, Chapter I, Article 3, Item 6 explains that: Green Building is a building which is designed, built, and operated to meet the criteria and standards for energy efficiency, resource saving; convenience and quality of the indoor living environment, and protecting the external environment.
Thus, a green building project must ensure:
+ Energy: The project reduces energy consumption.
+ Water: The project reduces water consumption.
+ Materials and Resources: The project uses cost-effective materials that have minimal negative impacts on the environment.
+ Health and Comfort: The project is designed to provide comfort for users and avoid adverse health effects on users.
+ Environmental Impact: The project is optimally designed to minimize negative impacts on the natural environment.
To achieve these elements, the project needs to be effectively designed from the initial stage with clear objectives and strategies. To help projects in Vietnam have additional references and detailed guidelines on Green Buildings, we have created the LOTUS Green Building standard.
What is LOTUS?
LOTUS is a long trusted International-Local framework for comprehensively assessing the sustainability of buildings of all types, new and existing, in Vietnam. Built specifically for the national context (construction regulations and conditions) with full integration of global sustainability priorities set by the WorldGBC, LOTUS is the only system exclusively created for Vietnam through an international lense.
