The VGBC joined the World Green Building Council’s (WGBC) Sustainable Finance Taskforce in April 2023. We have attended several global meetings with 26 other GBCs from around the world to discuss a variety of metrics under consideration for life cycle carbon footprinting of green construction projects. We have been reviewing SBTi, CRREM, and RICS whole life carbon assessments for possible application in Viet Nam.
This measurement and verification is needed to allow projects to access sustainable financing. With Net Zero Carbon Buildings a goal of governments around the world, including the Viet Nam government, the VGBC is preparing the technical frameworks now to support Vietnam’s transition to carbon neutrality by 2050, and significant progress by 2030. This is a big challenge, but the human-made problem of global warming will be solved with human-made solutions, and the VGBC is committed to lead this effort.
