The main theme focused on the design, benefit of green building along with potentially used materials and typical LOTUS-certified case studies. More importantly, the workshop achieved the objective to scale up the green building practices for all students through design exercies in a real project and to help them be awared of this issues earlier right at university.
In the afternoon, the workshop became more exciting while students were divided into 12 groups to create a new design for a real project. All of us including lecturers at NUCE, experts from VGBC and spopors were quite suprised of their work because just in 2 hours, groups raised a lot of creative ideas in design, effective solutions for enery, water, materials, etc. and applied their knowledge in making autocad model for that project.
Finally, the winner was “Love the environment” team with the design of a blended house which still kept the initial idea of the investor (the building shape of H letter because of their company name starting with H letter) and achieved nearly all of LOTUS criterion for a green building.
This workshop is indeed a very meaningful event to all students, lecturers and experts and brings a good chance for us to recognize student’s capability. We totally believe if they have enough opportunities to apply their knowledge and capability into right direction of green building, our country’s construction will show a brighter sign of more sustainable development and better life for the future generation.
