Introducing LOTUS Homes

VGBC are proud to announce the development of a new LOTUS certification tool, specially designed for single family homes. LOTUS Homes will provide a simple and workable tool that can be applied to houses throughout Vietnam. This tool will complement the existing suite of LOTUS green building tools. Over the coming months, VGBC’s Project Officer, Samantha Miller and Technical Manager, Xavier Leulliette, will work with key industry partners to further develop the new LOTUS Homes tool.

LOTUS Homes aims to encourage sustainable building design (including energy and water efficiency), encourage the use of sustainable building materials, create better internal spaces for inhabitants, and minimise the impact of single family home development on the environment. In order to achieve this, the tool must respond to some key challenges:

• The range of housing typologies within the Vietnamese single dwelling housing market;
• The variation in budget, experience and potentially limited project team for single developments;
• The need to provide a flexible tool that can cater to a broad range of projects and encourage innovative design; and
• Producing a tool that is simple enough to be implemented in a wide spread manner.

Consultation on Scoping Paper

The LOTUS Homes Scoping Paper was released on 20 August 2015 and seeks industry feedback on proposed elements of the new rating tool. LOTUS Homes introduces some interesting and unique solutions, such as prescriptive and performance solutions to certain credits, best practice bonus points, as well as new and modified categories.

There are a number of ways that VGBC members, industry organisations and professionals, and the general public can be involved in the ongoing development of LOTUS Homes:

• Download and complete the LOTUS Homes Scoping Paper here
• Register your interest in Stakeholder Workshops
• Join the Technical Advisory Group
• Register your interest for the Pilot Program

Submissions on the LOTUS Homes Scoping Paper will close 30 September 2015. VGBC will hold Stakeholder Workshops in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in September/October based on demand.
