LOTUS SYSTEM là hệ thống tiêu chí công trình xanh đầu tiên được phát triển dành riêng cho thị trường xây dựng tại Việt Nam, mang tính tự nguyện, được phát triển bởi Hội đồng Công trình Xanh Việt Nam (VGBC). Tại Việt Nam, VGBC đã thành lập Công ty TNHH Doanh nghiệp Xã hội Công trình xanh Việt Nam để thực hiện hoạt động đánh giá – chứng nhận dự án LOTUS và các chương trình đào tạo liên quan.

Được phát triển dựa trên nền tảng khoa học vật lý xây dựng đã được thiết lập và phù hợp với các điều kiện, khí hậu cũng như quy định của ngành xây dựng Việt Nam, LOTUS cung cấp đánh giá toàn diện về hiệu quả môi trường trong suốt vòng đời của các tòa nhà. Nó cung cấp một cách tiếp cận tích hợp để đánh giá các tòa nhà về mức tiêu thụ năng lượng, sử dụng nước và quản lý chất thải cũng như chất lượng môi trường trong nhà. Nó phục vụ như một hệ thống đánh giá khách quan mà bất kỳ bên liên quan nào trong quá trình xây dựng – nhà phát triển, nhà thiết kế, nhà thầu và chủ sở hữu đều có thể sử dụng – cho mục đích ra quyết định.
 
Kể từ khi chương trình thí điểm LOTUS đầu tiên được phát hành vào năm 2010, hệ thống xếp hạng đã trải qua nhiều lần cập nhật và sửa đổi. Phiên bản mới nhất là LOTUS New Construction (NC) v3, được phát hành vào tháng 4 năm 2019. LOTUS hiện bao gồm hầu hết các loại công trình và phạm vi dự án, bao gồm:

LOTUS khuyến khích lựa chọn các vật liệu và sản phẩm giúp giảm thiểu tác động đến môi trường, nâng cao chất lượng không gian trong nhà, đồng thời góp phần mang lại hiệu quả sử dụng năng lượng tốt hơn. Nhóm thiết kế nên xem xét cẩn thận các tiêu chí bền vững cùng với các yếu tố thông thường trong việc lựa chọn vật liệu, như độ bền, ngân sách và tính thẩm mỹ. Nếu khả thi, tổng thầu nên được tư vấn về tính sẵn có và chi phí liên quan đến việc mua sắm các vật liệu đó.
